Matthew 25
What It Means to Be a MT25 Church at Pleasant Street United Methodist Church
“Then the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”’ (MT 25:40
At Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, being a Matthew 25 Church isn’t just a title—it’s a way of life. When Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40), He gave us a clear and compelling mission: to serve not only in His name, but as if we were serving Him directly.
To be a MT25 Church means that we see Christ in every person—especially in those who are hungry, hurting, lonely, or overlooked. It means that our faith is not passive or private, but active and lived out in real, tangible ways. We don’t just talk about love—we show it. Through food drives, community meals, care ministries, clothing collections, outreach to the unhoused, and more, we live into Jesus’ radical call to serve the least of these.
But it doesn’t stop at charity. A true MT25 Church doesn’t just offer a handout—it offers a hand up. We believe in dignity. In hope. In transformation. We walk alongside people, not above them. We listen, we learn, and we build bridges. This means advocating for justice, confronting systems that harm the vulnerable, and always asking: “How can we be the hands and feet of Christ right here, right now?”
At Pleasant Street UMC, our commitment to Matthew 25 shows up in our ministries and our mindset. Every visitor is greeted with radical hospitality—not just a smile, but an open heart. Every worship service lifts up compassion as a central value. Every member is encouraged to discover their spiritual gifts and use them to serve others—whether that means mentoring youth, delivering meals, writing cards to shut-ins, or joining mission teams.
Being a MT25 Church also means recognizing that none of us are above needing help. At some point in our lives, we are all “the least of these”—and in our vulnerability, we meet the living Christ. That’s why we reject judgment, embrace inclusivity, and welcome everyone to the table. There’s no hierarchy in God’s kingdom—only grace.
In a world that often tells people they don’t matter, Pleasant Street UMC exists to proclaim the opposite: You matter deeply. You are seen. You are loved. And we are here for you.
Matthew 25 isn’t a suggestion—it’s a sacred summons. And here at Pleasant Street, we answer that call every day, in big and small ways, with faith that moves, serves, and restores. Because when we serve others, we are serving Christ Himself—and there is no greater joy. That’s what it means to be a MT25 Church.
Come see for yourself. Come serve with us. Come be the church.
