Class Meetings
Pleasant Street UMC
Faith Formation through Small Groups
❖ Soul Builders: meet in homes Monday evenings 6:00-7:17
❖ Soul Sisters: meet on Facebook Messenger Monday evenings 6:30-7:30
John Wesley, founder of our faith (the original “Methodist”), knew that to be disciples of Jesus we would need more than a Sunday worship service and a couple of now and then Bible Studies. What John knew, and put into common practice in the very beginning of his formal ministry, was to form small groups of faithful folks to meet together for the continuing formation and deepening of their walk with God.
In his book Kevin Watson states:
“Simply put, class meetings are designed for anyone who wants to grow closer to God.”
He goes on to say that class meetings are our weekly opportunity to share how being a Christian is making a meaningful difference in our lives and to “talk with others who want to grow closer to God and share what is happening in their life with God.” It is the way we can “watch over each other in love” while stretching and encouraging each other to “grow in our love of God and neighbor.”
If you would like to know more, please reach out to Rev. Sunjae, Ron White, or Carol Crothers. A copy of the book referenced and quoted from is in our library. It would be our blessing to share more with you and support new small groups within our community of faith.
“People are thirsting for transformation by the grace of God – even desperate for it. (In faithful small groups), participants expect to encounter God in their time together.” Watson pg 140
